11/07/2008 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ben Gordon scored 23 points, and rookie point guard Derrick Rose had 18 points as the Chicago Bulls ran away with a surprising 100-83 win over the Phoenix Suns.
Gordon sank 8-of-13 from the field -- including 4-of-8 three-pointers -- and Rose sank 8-of-11 shots for the Bulls, who had dropped three of four. Tyrus Thomas had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Luol Deng also scored 14 for Chicago.
Amare Stoudemire scored 26 points and grabbed seven boards for the Suns, who had won three straight. Rookie center Robin Lopez had 14 points and seven rebounds for Phoenix, which played without the services of Shaquille O'Neal. The 36-year-old center sat as part of the club's plan to give him rest throughout the season to keep O'Neal fresh.
Steve Nash had only six points and five assists in 24 minutes for the Suns.
Chicago pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back. The Suns led 17-15 after a Stoudemire dunk with 2:08 left in the first quarter, but a Gordon jumper cued a 19-1 Bulls run that bridged the first two frames.
Gordon scored seven points on the push, including a three in the first minute of the second quarter, and a Drew Gooden jumper closed the run and gave the Bulls a 34-18 lead with 8:34 left in the half. Chicago took a 48-34 lead into the break.
The lead held at 14 points early in the third quarter, until an 18-5 Bulls run turned a comfortable lead into a blowout. Deng scored six points on the push, which Gordon capped with a three-pointer, handing Chicago a 27-point lead, at 72-45, with 3:59 left in the third.
Phoenix pulled to within 20 points by the end of the third quarter, but did not threaten in the fourth as the Bulls breezed to victory.
Game Notes
The Suns were also without forward Matt Barnes, who has left the team to be with his fiancee, who gave birth to twins this week. Barnes will also miss Saturday's game in Milwaukee...Phoenix had won seven of eight in the series, including both games last season.

Now, it's okay to call the league hypocritical when it releases injury reports, which players have told me only helps bettors. And it's okay to mutter something obscene when the league pretends gambling doesn't help drive TV ratings and fan interest and put money in owners' pockets. But when it supports other forms of gaming? Big Deal. The Bears should put an orange "C" on every deck of cards dealt at Harrah's in Joliet; the Eagles should slap their logo on roulette wheels at the Borgata in Atlantic City; the Dolphins should hold training camp at the El San Juan in Puerto Rico.
Seriously.
The NFL's problem, when it comes to the gambling world, isn't hypocrisy, it's worse: The bosses lack vision. That's why the league is picking unwinnable fights in Delaware and taking pot shots from critics after making smart sponsorship deals. Roger Goodell and his gang are acting and thinking locally rather than globally, which is rare for them, especially compared to their professional (and amateur) counterparts.
The NBA held its All Star game in Las Vegas and David Stern's kingdom didn't crumble (although the town did bring plenty of players to their knees.) I'd say it's 6 to 5 and pick 'em that Lebron will make a road swing through Sin City before his career is over.
Even the NCAA College Football Betting is more progressive on this issue than the NFL. Several years ago Rachel Newman Baker, college sports' gambling czar, opened a dialogue with Vegas bookmakers to learn about how they do business. She's visited Nevada sports books, studied their operations and listened to how they regulate action. Now she knows she can expect a call from bookmakers, who lose money when sports are fixed, if they think something sketchy is going on in NCAA games. She's not in favor of sports betting, but, as she once told me, "I know it's not going away, either."
The NFL can't seem to accept that. And until it can find peace with the idea, it'll get flack, even when it's right.
